Anthony Villa

Anthony Villa was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. At an early age Anthony learned the meaning of hard work and the importance of trade unions from his parents and grandparents. Anthony’s grandparents came to America from Sicily. Like many before who came to our country looking for a better life, his grandfather immediately joined a trade union, the Bricklayers Union, and used this special skill to provide the best life for his family. Anthony’s father then worked as a high school teacher in Brooklyn, a member of Local 1261 for 41 years, while his mother also worked as a teacher in the union system. Hard work was the road to success and it is a message Anthony carries and still preaches to his union brothers today.

Anthony attended Fordham University in the Bronx and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While in school during the Summer of 1999, Anthony decided to join the Carpenter’s Local Union 11 in Hawthorne, NY. He went on to finish his degree by enrolling in night classes, so he would be able to work at his trade with the Carpenter’s Union during the day.

Anthony worked his way up from being an Apprentice, to Shop Steward, to Foreman where he was responsible for some of the largest projects in Westchester County and New York City. In 2013, he was hired as a Council Representative for the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters and was stationed on Long Island, New York with Local 290. Anthony was elected to the Executive Board of Carpenters Local 290 in 2015 where he currently serves as Recording Secretary. Anthony has just been named Director of the Long Island Carpenters Union.

In addition to his union life, Anthony is extremely active in his community and dedicated to making a difference in young people’s lives through volunteering and by working with his local neighborhood associations. The charitable contributions and work he has played a role in, while being a leader in the New England Regional Carpenters Local, has positively affected and influenced the lives of countless young people in the NY Metropolitan area. Anthony has been married for 10 years to his wife Catia who is a registered dental hygienist. They have two children, their 7-year-old son Anthony, and 5-year-old son Francesco.
