Sean Sallie
Sean E. Sallie serves as the Director of Planning & Development at Heatherwood Luxury Rentals in Commack NY since May 2022, where he is involved in advancing multiple family residential development projects from planning through entitlement. Prior to joining Heatherwood, Mr. Sallie served as the Deputy Commissioner for the Nassau County Department of Public Works.
Mr. Sallie has nearly 20 years of experience managing complex infrastructure improvements, renewable energy generation projects, community development initiatives and environmental impact analyses. Mr. Sallie oversaw the Department of Public Works’ Mobility Planning and Design Program, Resiliency and Sustainability Infrastructure Program, and the Division of Planning which serves as staff to the Nassau County Planning Commission. During his tenure with the Nassau County Department of Public Works, Mr. Sallie embraced a collaborative and inclusive approach to implementing municipal/public-sector infrastructure investment, community revitalization policy and real estate development.
Specific to TOD and downtown revitalization, Mr. Sallie managed various successful initiatives, such as the Nassau County Station-Area Infill Redevelopment Study, Baldwin Downtown Revitalization Action Plan, Nassau County Shared Mobility Management Plan, Nassau Hub Transit Initiative, 2010 Nassau County Master Plan, as well as various mixed-use/multi-family redevelopment public/private partnerships. During his time overseeing the Nassau County Planning Commission, Mr. Sallie gained broad experience in the real estate entitlement process, including local zoning ordinances and permitting protocols, State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), as well as participation in the ever-evolving local and regional policy debates/conflicts surrounding TOD and multiple-family housing in suburban/urban-fringe settings.
Mr. Sallie received a B.A. in Physical Geography and Environmental Systems from the University at Buffalo and a M.S. in Environmental Management and Planning from Long Island University. Mr. Sallie is accredited by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and served on the American Planning Association New York Metro Chapter Executive Committee as the Director of the Long Island Section from 2015 - 2020. Since 2018, Mr. Sallie has served as Adjunct Professor in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University where he teaches a systems approach to land use planning, public policy and infrastructure development. Mr. Sallie a member of the Energeia Partnership, Class of 2018.
Mr. Sallie resides in Rockville Centre, NY with his wife, Vanessa, and two sons, Henry and Harrison.
