Westy Self Storage Building
This newly constructed Long Island location extends Westy's tri-state footprint into northern Suffolk County, Long Island NY. The East Northport location is a brand new 139,120 square foot building, providing over 1,200 storage units.
The East Northport location has a grand atrium lobby with balconies from the upper floors looking into it, as well as art on the walls, soft background music and granite lobby floors. As with all the Westy buildings, the East Northport location was built for permanence with design elements specifically chosen to create a special and inviting atmosphere for their customers – who of course are the most important component of Westy and who all things revolve. Along to the visual aspects of the facility, the building received 5 points for Indoor Environmental Quality Credits that inlcuded: 1) Air Quality Performance, 2) Tobacco Smoke Control, 3) Low Emitting Paint, Sealants, Coatings and Flooring, 4) Thermal comfort design standards.
The building consumes 38% less energy than a standard building (as per comparison to the ASHRAE 90.1-2007 baseline case) and received 14 points for Energy and Atmosphere Cerdit 1. All lighting fixture installations were designed to be LED and all roof top HVAC systems were high efficiency units (with energy recovery capabilities) for which the owner received utility incentives to offset some of the construction cost. The building had quality assurance and verification procedures conducted that inlcuded energy simulation/modeling f the proposed design and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment commissioning services. The building also received additional credits for utilizing regional construction materials, maximizing open space and environmental features, and reducing water usage.
About LEED®
The LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™ is a feature-oriented rating system that awards buildings points for satisfying specified greenbuilding criteria. The six major environmental categories of review include: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental. Quality and Innovation and Design.
