Are you looking for a new and unique way to engage your employees, clients and community? Become a 2017 30x30 Nature Challenge Event Partner to show your support of USGBC and showcase your organization’s leadership, knowledge and expertise.

Finding enticing ways to connect with target audiences can be difficult. People are overwhelmed by the “noise” of the world and often will avoid groups they perceive as selling them something. USGBC Wisconsin offers a unique opportunity to draw their attention and avoid the “salesman” stereotype.

What is the 30x30 Nature Challenge?

It is becoming apparent that humans are increasingly suffering from what Richard Louv describes as "nature-deficit disorder." We are spending less time outdoors, resulting in a wide range of behavior and health issues. Despite being highly evolved animals, our well-being is still tied to the natural world, and restricting access is literally hurting us. How do we help people rediscover the ecosystem services and associated benefits that nature offers, while also advocating for built environments that enhance the ability to connect to them?

This is where our solution comes in. For the fourth year, we are issuing a challenge to Wisconsinites to put their well-being first. All they have to do is make time to disconnect from everyday stressors and ignite their connection to nature by starting small—only 30 minutes in nature each day for 30 days in June.

What is the role of Event Partners?

It's a simple idea, and people are looking for opportunities to join others outdoors. Your organization can take advantage of this and be leaders in this initiative by becoming an event partner.

Event Partners are organizations supporting the 30x30 Nature Challenge by hosting events in June that highlight their organizational expertise or dedication to a better built environment—one that enhances, rather that disrupts, the ecosystem services we need. An event can be already planned, but marketed as part of the challenge, or it can be a newly planned event inspired by the challenge. Here are a few examples of how you can engage:

  • Highlight great work that your firm does to ensure a sustainable built environment by hosting a tour of a project.
  • Tie activities to your organization’s wellness program by throwing a picnic for your employees and watch their morale improve, potentially leading to an increase in productivity.
  • Build your connection to people and places by simply interacting with one another outdoors. Invite a group of clients to join you for a walk at a local nature center.
