On the first day of class, you will be in the classroom learning about onsite wastewater systems, inspection techniques, general safety issues, how to use tools and gadgets of the inspection trade and how to recognize typical substandard systems, collecting baseline data, determining solids levels in tanks, and pump out and inspection frequencies. The second day will begin with a hands-on review of safety issues, inspection techniques, procedures, and inspection tools. Then we head into the field to conduct 2 actual, blind inspections at existing homes using the standardized class inspection procedure. At the end of the day, you may take a written examination to become a Suffolk County approved onsite wastewater system inspector. Instructors for the class are – George Loomis of the University of Rhode Island New England Onsite Wastewater Training Center; Justin Jobin and John Sohngen, Suffolk County Department of Health Services.
Participants are required to be present during the entire 2-day class (8:00 am to 5:00 pm each day). Attendance will be taken throughout the class. Your fee does not include refreshments or lunch - please bring your lunch, snacks and drinks. The county will issues certificates to participants who successfully complete the class and pass the inspector’s examination.
